Goon 24" free flight Scale short Kit
Goon 24" free flight Scale short Kit
Don DeLoach and I have collaborated to design this model for FAC competition and sport flying. Wally Farrell has completed his and it is a great flyer …see it here. This kit contains 140 laser cut parts on several sheets of 1/16”, 3/32”, and 3/16” light balsa as well as a sheet of 1/64 ply parts and an optional 10 inch 1.2 P/D prop (laminated from 9 layers of 1/8” with ply hub reinforcements; the prop adds $10). The kit includes all sheet wood parts to make the airframe, nose block, nose plug, spinner and wheels. It also includes gusseted and slotted wing trailing edges, precut fuselage crosspieces and front end parts to accommodated Gizmo Geezer, or K&P adjustable thrust buttons. The builder supplies long 3/32nd strip wood, tissue and hardware for front end, undercarriage (if desired) and Dt mechanism (if desired)). The kit will also include a paper pilot, paper trim details, and an instrument panel. Printed Tissue art will also be available for this kit as a separate purchase.
Deviations from scale: This model was designed to perform and hopefully eliminate some of the issues that have plagued Goon free flight scale models over the years. The stab has been enlarged to 30% of the wing area, the fin was made slightly taller and the rear fuselage extended by half an inch. The hope is that this will improve stability characteristics. I have set up the wing washout for a left hand circle under power, if you prefer a right hand power pattern you should reverse the warps or just build it symmetrical.
When you order you should select whether you would like a printed plan or not (if not you can buy a digital copy here and print it yourself)
You should select a prop (if you select “gizmo” I will send you a Gizmogeezer prop system with a 10” plastic prop, if you select “balsa prop kit” I will send you a kit to make a hand carved 10.5 inch prop) if you would prefer a different prop just select none and then select the prop you prefer here
Tissue option - you can opt for no tissue at all, a full printed tissue set, or a set of laser cut tissue decals. In the latter case the letters and numbers will be fully cut out with each set in a separate plastic envelope. All you have to do is to use the supplied laser cut template to align and space the letters and then dope them onto the model.
